It was organized by the NationalPhysical Laboratory, Teddington, in co-operation with the Mechanical Engineering Research Laboratory, East Kilbride, Glasgow. The Symposium comprised eight separate sessions, some held concurrently, during which thirty-nine papers were presented. The resulting discussions have been summarized in the Proceedings.
