Fotokünstler F. Horvat (1928-2020) arbeitete seit 1951 als freier
Fotograf und Fotojournalist. Seit Ende der 1950er Jahre auch als
Modefotograf für Elle, Harper’s Bazaar und die Vogue, außerdem war er
seit Mitte der 60er Jahre auch als Experimentalfilmer aktiv. – „Das Werk
des herausragenden Künstlers Frank Horvat entsteht in aller Diskretion
und mit großer Formstrenge. Als Modefotograf entzieht er sich
kurzlebigen Trends, als Bildreporter schafft er starke und zeitlose
Bilder. Auf seine Weise vollbringt er jedoch eine Art sanfter
Revolution, als er Ende der fünfziger Jahre das Format 24 x 36 mm
einführt. … Möglicherweise ist William Klein ihm etwas schuldig und
umgekehrt. In jedem Falle wird sein Name als einer der Großen in die

verso. – The Italian photo artist F. Horvat (1928-2020) worked as a
freelance photographer and photojournalist from 1951. From the end of
the 1950s, he also worked as a fashion photographer for Elle, Harper’s
Bazaar and Vogue, and from the mid-1960s he was also active as an
experimental filmmaker. – “The work of the outstanding artist Frank
Horvat is created with discretion and great formal rigor. As a fashion
photographer, he eludes short-lived trends; as a photojournalist, he
creates strong and timeless images. In his own way, however, he achieved
a kind of gentle revolution when he introduced the 24 x 36 mm format at
the end of the 1950s. … Perhaps William Klein owes him something and
vice versa. In any case, his name will go down in the history of fashion
