Interesting large coin of the Grand Duke William III (1849-1890) in attractive condition struck in Brussels. William III was an exceptionally large and strong man. His height was 1.96 m. The coin circulated till 1901. That year the metal of withdrawn coins was used to cast the bronze relief plan of the fortress of the city of Luxembourg. Error happened due to lack of attention: the coin bears caduceus and Roman sword on the Obv., which used to mark Utrecht mint in the Netherlands and the employee van der Wall Blake. This outstanding error brought to scandal between the territories. Due to small mintage the coin is uncommon.
