Walery sometimes used the pseudonyms of “Laryew” or “Yrelaw”, which are anagrams for his name. He was famous for his body studies photographs, as well as his photos of Mata Hari (1876-1917) and Josephine Baker (1906-1975). He is often confused with another photographer whose nickname was “Walery”: Stanislaw Julian Ostroróg (1836-1890), an exiled Polish count.
